“My very first oil painting at the age of 11 was of a beech wood in autumn, copied from one of my Dad’s photos, and I have been painting landscapes on and off ever since. When I lived in Japan I was fascinated by old shrines and agricultural buildings, and loved taking days off in the countryside to record what I saw in paint.”
“It’s great fun working outdoors, and it makes a welcome change to the familiar surroundings of the studio. The light is constantly changing and you have about two hours to get something down. That focuses the mind and forces you to work at speed.”
